We're buying a Proform 745CS treadmill and are trying to figure out where to put it in our rather tiny house. The options are the guest bedroom on the 2nd floor or the basement.

Since a treadmill is a rather heavy piece of equipment I was wondering if it was actually safe to put upstairs and run on. My floors are standard thickness, I guess; the house is 20 years old so while I'm not particularly worried about crashing through the floor I also don't want to cause any structural damage. Nobody over 200 lbs. will be using the thing.

Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, etc.? Thanks in advance for any

Mike,

Unless you have decaying floors, the weight is not an issue. Your dresser with all your clothes in it is probably heavier then the treadmill. I would try to put it in front of a TV if possible.

Good point regarding the dresser. And people have waterbeds, too, which are definitely heavier, now that I think about it. Thanks, Michael!

Opt for the basement but take care to avoid dust. Dust eats treadmills.

[snip]

The treadmill probably weighs less (or at least not much more) than you. Right? Your refrigerator probably weighs more than your treadmill. No one ever warned you that your house couldn't support a refrigerator, right? There's probably no structural issue.

You'd probably have more structural issues if you married a fat woman and ask her to share your bedroom.

However if you move the machine to the second floor, the pounding of footsteps from the second floor is going to cause the entire house to vibrate. That's ok if you live alone, but if you have companion(s), you'll have complaints about the noise.

I agree with the others on the board...the treadmill weight question is not an issue. I once lived in a (very nice) mobile home and had a queen sized waterbed and never had any problems. Don't worry, be happy, run far...

Good running to you.
