was 2 minutes ago when idling my time away reading race results online. In the 'Belgian Days' 2M race a 5 YEAR OLD ran the distance faster than I could!!! 20.08 to be precise.

I knew I was slow but this is ridiculous! I quit! I'm going to throw my shoes in the bin on my way to the car. Once in the car I'm going drive the 1/4 mile to the shop and buy beer, crisps, chocolate and more beer. I'm never running again ((((

That sounds mature! How old are you??

Seriously buddy, I'll bet that 5 year old's lungs and heart were in better shape than yours (or mine!) Give it a little time. How long have you been running? More importantly, how long were you NOT running?

Yes

Well not too much. Looking at the Christian names of the runners they looked quite 'English' - for want of a better word. Clearly the surmnames look (to my ignorant English eye) Belgian/Dutch which kind of threw me. The entrants from Green Bay however, made me think U.S. as my ignorant English mind thinks Wisconsin has a 'Low Countries' connection. I should really have investigated further but I'm lazy - which might explain why I'm a slow runner )

I agree with you that Brussels is the capital of Belgium. However, I believe that this particular race actually was in Brussels of Wisconsin.

You've got to realize that this 5 year old probably weighs like 40 pounds. If you weighed 40 pounds you'd probably break the world record in every event out there - so would about anyone. One of the great things about running is that it doesn't rely on brute strength or size as much as many sports.

I also do, because in europe races are almost never over mile-distances (we use kilometres).

Wait! You're saying it was a youngster from Brussels?

Gee, we got 5 year old faster than that here. Micah Smith could beat that kid by a minute. Check out these results:

He's also done Ultimate Runner the last two years:
