Friends of mine on the internet have told me that there exist sports equipment stores who specialize in just running shoes. You go in, get on a treadmill, and they evaluate your gait etc, even filiming it so you can see yourself and how you move. They then recommend 'real' ($200) running shoes based on this.

Can anyone tell me if such a place exists in Tucson Az? Maybe Phoenix?

I can't imagine there would be any store in Tuscon or Phoenix (or anywhere) that would sell running shoes for US$200. I've been running for almost 4 years, and have never, ever seen shoes that expensive.

I live in Canada though - for all I know shoes do cost that much down there, but I find it hard to believe.

I have been to several specialty running stores in Phoenix (most notably Runners Den) and I have never seen $200 shoes. Most do carry high end shoes ($100+) but most are in the 80-90$ range. Some have treadmills and others will have you do a little run outside while they watch you run. Most will ask you to take your shoes off and they will feel your feet to see what type of foot you have and find out which leg is longer etc. Last time at Runners Den they had me try on at least 6 different shoes from different makers and I found my perfect pair. I am sure Tucson has several stores as well. Look in the phone book and make some calls.

Hi Jason-

Yes, it exists. There are several Performance Footwear stores in Tucson that have treadmills and evaluate your gait. Don't forget to bring your running clothes when you go there... (Also, I'd call in advance and ask when their best evaluator is in).

Yes, I forgot to say anything to that...

Your shoes *shouldn't* cost $200, more like $50-100...
