This is for anyone that participates in races in which they give thier full effort. This is something that has been happening to me ever since I started running. After racing, particularily after a really hard effort, I get this strange feeling in my tongue. It is a feeling that I have a hard time quantifying in word form, but I can say that it is very unpleasant. I would say that my tongue feels like its too big for my mouth. There is also some degree of pain involved, and it makes me want to spit my tongue right out to make it go away. Its generally at the back of my tongue. I am interested if anyone else has this happen to them after racing, I race track events, specifically the mile.

At least you're in good company. Maurice Green seems to have this problem

Perhaps you're dehydrated or not hydrated quite enough. Dry tongue after running is not pleasant.

Can't say I've experienced what you have.

Can you tell me where you have heard this? Is it in any publication?

Personal observation. Mo seems to have great difficulty keeping his tongue inside his mouth.

I see. I realized what you were talking about when I did a little research. Fortunately I do not share that trait.

(snip)

I get that swollen tongue feeling also, but I just put it down to increased blood pressure and dehydration from the exertion.
