Anyone know a good running shoe for someone just recently afflicted with plantar fascitis? The pain isn't too bad now, but I want to get a shoe with good arch support so that this does not turn into a long term injury.

I am afraid that no shoes will really fit your problem. Of course, you should seek a good pronation support, but the only way to cure plantar fascitiis definitely is orthotics....

You might want to try the Saucony Grid Hammer

When you look at a shoe, check the flexibility of the sole using both hands. First, push the heel and toe together. The sole should bend easily where the last 'knuckle' of the big toe should be. Next, hold the shoe at this flex point and the heel and try to bend the shoe under the arch. If the shoe flexes here, it is too soft and will cause problems.
Hope this helps

I agree. Try some of the cheaper aftermarket heel cups first. Maybe an aftermarket arch support insert? Try these options first. See a doc about it, etc, etc.

You can try home remedies but don't let it get oo bad before seeking professional help. In my case it was a new pair of shoes that caused the problem to develop in the first place. From my experience avoid the NB1020. Since I stopped wearing those shoes my foot has been getting better. I also keep a pair of Berkenstocks to wear when ever I don't have shoes on. Slip on the berks even if you have to get up in the middle of the night. I've also found one of those knobby wheel foot massagers was a big help. The problem cam become serious I know someone who has been on crutches for 3-4 months now due to their plantar facitis. Their doctor is about to resort to surgery. Try all the after market innersoles in your local stores the ones I found that felt best to my foot are the Powerstep innersoles. That said I now feel best back in my old NB829 with original innersoles or even in a pair of racing flats.
Good luck,
Tom

I have used the Superfoot inserts, which help a lot, use them in both jogging and walking shoes now and wouldn't think of going without them. Also, I had to and still do a lot of stretching of the foot and the calf muscle, which brings a lot of relief. Finally, make sure you step out of bed into a pair of shoes or birkenstocks like the other post recommended. The ultimate solution is to stop running for a while and get the things healed.
