nyc running store

I will be in NYC in a couple of weeks and I would like to know the best place to go for a good running store. Thank you.

If you're looking in Manhattan, you can try the one at 72nd and 3rd - I forget the name. The same store also has shops at 89th and Lexington and on the West side (77th or 78th and Amsterdam I think). These stores are devoted to running. Also, there's Paragon's near Union Square, which is more of a general sports store.

By the way, I basically browse these shops and do most of my shopping on the internet. Your mileage might vary.

I believe the small chain is named Super Runners Shop. I think they support a local running team, and that most of their staff are runners. I bought my last pair of running shoes there.

For what it matters, I asked the salesperson, if NY Road Runners Club members got any sort of discount, and was told yes. I seem to remember the amount was 10 per cent (this was about 1 1/2 years ago - time to go back). I told him that I did have my card with me, and he didn't care. I was impressed by that and by the non-high pressure approach to sales, that they had. They encouraged me to try the shoes on, and run around the block to get the feel of them, before buying. This is something that I wouldn't have thought of asking for, no less have someone in the store agree to; this is Manhattan after all. They've got my vote as a place to shop. Ken D.
