After much email trouble I am finally able to post my story! I have proudly ran my first race, The San Francisco bay to breakers 12k Starting at the beginning... I have been running for almost 1 year now, started only being able to make it a few houses down the road before exhaustion, slowly worked my self up to a mile and the rest is history.. Week before I ran 10 miles in what have been noted as the wrong shoes. the result... bruised toes (badly ouch!) Not willing to give up, day before the race, went to wonderful shoe store sat through the laughs as I told them what I had done and purchased the right shoes for my feet, with much encouragement and much walking around in these new shoes all day Saturday I was ready as much as I could be. Took the fairy to the city, ate my powerbar and walked to the startline and waited an hour till countdown. Quite a scene, tortillas flying about and wacky costumes (me in regular running garb)

Started off probably faster than I should but the thrill of the race and the want to get past all the slower crowd that had won themselves a place ahead of the start line pushed me forward.

Perfect foggy weather for a city run, I made my way to the Hayes street hill, original goal was just to run from start to finish, but as I easily chugged up the hill (I love running hills) I knew I would make it to the end. after the hill, my right foot had a slight ache (fair price to pay for new shoes, that were keeping my bruised toes from becoming any more injured) managed to drink through a water stop, and picked up two silly southwest inflatable airplane hats for my kids which kept my mind off my aching foot as I deflated them while running.

I made it to the finish line!!!! What a wonderful feeling of completion Official time 1:10:48

Can't wait to do it again next time, in properly worn in shoes, and not going to pick up any silly airplanes, going to do it in at least an hour!

Happy running to all Nada

Great job nada.

Gee, I don't know why the 'started only being able to make it a few houses down the road before exhaustion?' sounded so familiar. I wonder if that is because my first run was an attempt to run down the street and ended up trying to catch my breath all night long after that.

I also liked your: 'Perfect foggy weather' remark. I guess I'd rather have fog than too much sun.

congratulations on your first race, Nada! that's a very good time, and i'm sure you'll see improvement in no time. yeah, the new shoes for the race probably worked against you a bit, but i suppose they saved you *some* aggravation.

beware of flying tacos,
