I agree with this comment; I would just start your run slowly and warm up over the first mile to reach your desired pace. A cold stretch of the lower calf/achilles connection sounds very unwise when it is already a source of pain. As to the cause of your pain, you may be trying to run faster than before, which stresses the achilles and lower calf; you may be running uphill, which does the same; or, you may be running in shoes which are down at the heel or were low in heel support to begin with. Any of these things could be the root of the problem.
