If you plan on running a marathon then you should know that it is not as simple mathematical problem as Jack is treating it. Well of course he is an expert and knows running but the idea that you can have your body run at a steady pace from the first minute to the last seems strange to me.
Have you tried practicing this way?
All the marathon runners i know have the ability to keep a steady pace but not the same one throughout the run.
